White Grape Cosmo with Slim Lizzy's Cocktails

There's nothing better than receiving the gift of mommy juice so thank you Slim Lizzy's Cocktails for the prezzies that taste great in my White Grape Cosmo. Because they are so gal pal friendly, here's a special treat for you to enjoy if you're doing a mom's night in or with friends on Galentine's Day (the hot date you have with your friends before Valentine's Day).

Girls Night In with VEEV VitaFrute

I received VEEV VitaFrute in exchange for my review, all opinions are my own.

I'm an introvert that loves to party. I'm not talking about rave style. I prefer just hanging with my girlfriends. Over cocktails. Talking nonsense. Objectifying men. Pontificating. Laughing and letting the hair down. Cursing because there aren't any kids around. Going one past the two drink max. Preferably in real glasses with a long stem. The kind you don't let the kids go near.

Quick and Simple Passion Fruit Cocktails

The simplest way to make cocktails at home is with juice and your favorite spirit. I'm likely to always have juice on hand as Violet is a connoisseur. We usually keep the bar stocked with spirits too. Together they make the perfect cocktail combination.

Thanks to Welch's for sponsoring today's post and rocking my world with the refrigerated tropical fruit blends juices. I was able to mix up three simple passion fruit cocktail concoctions.

{City} Happy Hour at P.F. Chang's

Thank you P.F. Chang’s for sponsoring this post and the tasty much needed date night! We don't get out together sans V too often. Our last date was February? Gahh. We need to get out more. Together.

We both have a love of alfresco dining when the weather is warm so we opted for a nice drive up to P. F. Chang's Northbrook location. They have a fantastic happy hour menu so we sampled a variety of dishes and cocktails. There's lots to choose from plus they have a great patio to soak up the beautiful sunshine and people watch.

Ghost and goblins agree that nothing is sweeter than vampire blood punch. We living and breathing humans may be familiar with this delicious drink too. We call it a Kalimotxo! It's normally single serve but makes a great punch for Halloween entertaining.

Picture it. You and your best mom friends all have Friday night free. You want to rock the town but you know you'll need to be up bright and early Saturday morning -- parenting and all that. You decide on a late evening to early night in with cocktails, copious snacks, and that chick flick your partner refuses to watch with you.

How to Build World's Best Champagne Bubbles Bar

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #WaterMadeExciting #CollectiveBias This content is intended for readers who are 21 and over.

I'm ringing in the new year with champagne in hand and a do better mindset. My goal for the new year is to make better choices. Better choices with business. I'm striving to work smarter and not harder. Better choices with pleasure. I'm saving up for more travel and spending less time shopping. Better choices with my diet. I vow to drink more water and be conscious about what I put in my body.

Of course, I'm only human and this human enjoys wine, cocktails and spirits! I won't be swearing them off in the new year but I am finding ways to go lighter.

How to Make Skittles Vodka

Thanks to Pinterest for introducing me to a whole new world of diy cocktails. It was because of them, I discovered Skittles flavored vodka. Apparently this was common college "fancy" drank but sadly I missed that part of my collegiate career.

Wine is my beverage of choice most nights. One glass. Red. It's healthy, right? When I'm having a night in (or the rare out) with mom friends, I like sugary sweet brightly hued beverages to accompany the gab fest.

How to Drink Water When You Really Want Cocktails

This post is sponsored by Perrier® Sparkling Natural Mineral Water but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

One of my biggest struggles in this healthier living journey has been increasing water consumption and decreasing the wine and cocktails. With all of the festivals, concerts, and outdoor gatherings it's hard to focus on my water and step away from sugary cocktails. My libations before healthy journey were coffee and wine. I never drank water. Never. Now I'm doing at least eight cups a day.

Homemade Irish Cream

I cannot deal with this cold snap. I'm hanging out indoors mainly in velour muumuu and sweats. There's nothing to see or do with my thrifted wardrobe right now. While keeping cozy inside, I've been taking a few sips of my homemade Irish Cream to keep me warm. It's delicious and creamy. It's the perfect drink to enjoy in front of the fireplace underneath a thick blanket.

Dragon Fruit Superfood Sorbet

This is a sponsored post for SheSpeaks/Rubbermaid®.

Maintaining after weight loss is very much an ongoing challenge. I still have those same desires for decadent desserts and other fat snacks. It's especially difficult when summer rolls around and there are parties with barbecues, cocktails, and lots of ice cream to consume. I made homemade dragon fruit sorbet to help curb those desires.

One of my weight loss tips is to binge smart. I don't deny myself all the treats. I've learned to balance them and when I feel the need to overindulge, I make sure there's a healthy snack to binge on.

8 Tips to Sell Your Poshmark Closet Like A Boss

Like a lot of thrifters, I accumulate a lot of stuff. When I gather up the energy to prune the closet, I always find great items that I can sell so I bundle those pieces all together in another area of the closet to be photographed and listed on Poshmark. I was doing eBay back in the day but I liked how similar Poshmark was to the social media tools I already use.

It's a lot of work though and frankly the millennial process is a bit confusing to my Gen X brain which is why I popped into a Poshnation event when it came to Atlanta.

Why I Want to Attend SoFabCon

My favorite network, Social Fabric, is having a conference May 3rd - 5th in Betonville/Rogers, AR for bloggers inside of and outside of the #cbias community -- SoFabCon. They are also giving away 12 full conference scholarships and I'd like to receive one!

#LuvSoFab

Here are the Top 10 Reasons Why I Want to Attend #SoFabCon:

10. The weather will probably be nicer in Bentonville (Chicago may or may not have warm weather) and I want to go frolicking outside.

#luvsofab

9. I want to display the cute little "I'm attending SoFabCon" badge on my blog. First conference for Social Fabric and first conference for me!

#LuvSoFab8. I #LuvSoFab for the opportunities I've had and for all of the support. The traffic on my truffles has been insane. In part due to all the retweet love I receive from the community. The money I've made from campaigns this year is more than enough to cover the first installment of my very necessary and very expensive orthodontia work. (see vision board)

7. I want to attend the Photography session so that I can learn more about indoor lighting and working with the camera I have and not the expensive DSLR camera I want.

#luvsofab6. The opportunity to network with brands and blog friends. There's an opening cocktail reception too! You know Mama loves cocktails and wine!

5.  I want to attend the Wordpress/HTML session. The word on the street is that Wordpress is a better platform and I can sort of see it but I like the simplicity of blogger. I also live in fear of doing a Blogger to WP transfer without knowing the ins and outs of HTML. With the knowledge from this section, I will be empowered to make the the "big switch".

#luvsofab

4. The Writing Topics and Structure session will help me improve my written communication skills. Since I'm not in school or in the workforce, I don't have a reason to express myself or write much other than blogging. I'd like to gain some pointers on writing better content so that you all can marvel at my witty musings.

#luvsofab

3. The Improving Your Blogging Business session speaks to my vision board too. I consider my blog a hobby but being compensated for something I love doing has always been my dream. By attending the session, I can come away with tools I need for the business side like a mission statement, objectives, and marketing ideas.

2. Search Engine Optimization still boggles my mind so I would love to attend the SEO session. I've learned a few techniques just by participating in campaigns. One of my blogging goals is to increase my readership and learning some new tricks would help increase my search engine traffic.

#luvsofab

1. Another major vision board theme for me this year is Building Brand Me. By attending the Building Your Brand and Community session, I can discover who I really am as a blogger and entrepreneur. Right now my brand is a messy Bessy. I have two blogs. My byline is Windy City Mama but my social media profiles are all different. I blog thrift. I blog DIY. I blog random. I've even dabble in vlogging. It would be great to define my brand and work within that definition.

In unrelated news, do you see the white light in all of the pics? What is that? *cues Twilight Zone theme music*

Thrifting, Sushi, and Day Drinking Weekend

Due to an awesomely busy weekend, I have no outfit pictures. I wore my diy sequin skirt for my mom's night out but most of the time was pretty casual in my SAHM standards. Here's a look at what I was up to. It was a perfect weekend packed with thrifting, sushi, day drinking and more!

Naturally there was thrifting.

I did some Valentine's Day thrifting on Friday. I treated myself to a  Village Discount trip while V was in school getting sugar wasted at a party. I bought small randoms for $3. The skirt was only .10 so it was basically free.

The next day, I went to another Village Discount. I was in the mood for grimy thrift.  I went with my BFF who dropped in from ATL. It's so much fun thriting with friends. Do you agree? It's double the eyes spying good treasure. I spent $14 and found some great items including a vintage jumpsuit that I'm going to sell. I love the epaulets!

Cabaret at Serenbe Playhouse

Cabaret is one of my favorite musicals. I have a green sparkly green nail polish that I bought specifically because it reminds me of the emerald green polish Sally Bowles wears. I always set the DVR when it pop up on TCM. I love the music and the story. Needless to say, I was excited to be invited to the open air adaption of Cabaret at Serenbe Playhouse. It's was a must see & do for my summer bucket list.

Pink Skirt. Green Tee. All Wrinkled.

Green oversized tee has been sitting in the clean clothes crumpled heap for days. The curves of my body knocked out most of the wrinkles. Pink pencil skirt is linen and therefore wrinkles with every move. I don't feel slovenly though. Real women wear wrinkled clothes. At least this one does. Sometimes.

How To Give Life to Beat Up Thrift Store Jumpsuit

As you can probably guess, I thrifted this jumpsuit for the dramatic ruffled shoulders. It was missing one of the back lace up ties and there was some damage to the pant leg. I did a little surgery and removed some length thus cutting away the holes and shortening the length. I used pieces of the cut pant leg to make another tie.

thrift style

I considered just removing the other tie but there was high probability of it falling down. The laces keep the bodice in place. Also, they're more interesting than open back, no?
